Longtime Agoura planning commissioner steps down
      After 10 years of service on the Agoura Hills Planning Commission, Phil Ramuno has left the dais. The planning commission consists of five volunteer members who live in Agoura Hills. The panel acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council on landuse matters and recommends ways to guide the city's physical growth by implementing its General Plan.

      Wendy Bjurstrom had never wanted to go to Africa but once she did, the experience changed the Westlake Village resident's life. She and her husband, Ed, a former Amgen vice president, were so deeply touched by the people they met on their first trip in 2002 that they formed an organization to help improve the health of Africans.

Students turn trash into treasure
     'CAN'-DO ATTITUDE- Students at A.E. Wright Middle School show off bags of cans collected at the school's Spring Aluminum Can Drive which netted more than 21,000 cans. Proceeds from the event will be used toward the purchase of supplies for the school's science laboratories.

Class teaches adults how to use the Internet
      The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services will offer a "Navigate the Internet" class for adults ages 18 and up from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays from May 20 to June 17, or 11 a.m. to noon Thursdays from May 22 to June 12.

      As boys, Wynn "Biff" Sherman and John Mueller played Monopoly on their front lawns and baseball in the street, the same street that all their friends lived on. The quiet Woodland Hills neighborhood was typical of the Valley in the '50s and '60s, the site of years of memories.

Oak Park student's photo earns top award at art guild's show
      Oak Park High School senior Maria McGinley, 18, won the top honor at last month's annual Westlake Village Art Guild's High School Senior Art Show. Her entry, "Autumn's Child," a closeup photograph of her 10year-old brother Timmy with his face partially obscured by leaves, was chosen as Best in Show out of 132 entries in all categories.
