Eighth-grader from Lake Sherwood makes verbal commitment to play basketball at Kentucky
      Last week Michael Avery decided what college he's going to attend. Now all he has to do is choose a high school. Avery, a 15-year-old eighthgrader who attends Ascension Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the University of Kentucky beginning in the fall of 2012.

      Robert Gerig was mowing the baseball diamond at Westlake High, prepping the field for a Monday afternoon practice. Minutes later, Gerig and his son Joey were no longer coaches for Westlake's junior varsity baseball team.

      The Marmonte and Sunset leagues have a date with destiny. When the CIF-Southern Section Division I boys' volleyball playoffs begin Friday night, the Marmonte's top three teams- Royal, Thousand Oaks and Agoura- will all be playing against Sunset League opponents.

Tennis squad went undefeated in league play
      The first round of the CIFSouthern Section boys' tennis playoffs begin today and several local teams feel like they have a shot at winning it all. In Division I, Calabasas enters the tournament red-hot after winning the Marmonte League title with a 14-0 record, 19-1 overall. The Coyotes will host Palos Verdes, the Bay League's No. 3 seed, at 3 p.m.

Agoura advances to SCLA title game
Victory over Westlake sets up showdown with Newbury Park
      After splitting their season series, the Agoura and Newbury Park lacrosse clubs will meet in the Southern California Lacrosse Association championship game Friday night at NPHS. The Newbury Park Prowlers earned a trip to the final with a 4-3 win over the Thousand Oaks Knights Tuesday night.

Oak Park lacrosse update
      The Oak Park High lacrosse team won its secondround CIF playoff game Monday night at Beverly Hills in dramatic fashion. Brett Zeolla logged the game-winning goal in the fifth overtime to lift the Eagles to a 6-5 win over Chaminade.
