The Oaks mall renovation makes steady progress
      "Under construction" seems like an understatement at The Oaks mall, where many brandnew retailers will join renovated or expanded stores later this year. No longer does Marin Drive serve as an entrance to the mall off Hillcrest Drive. Those who once used that option must now enter closer to Lynn Road.

      The 52nd annual Conejo Valley Days festivities will take place this weekend and also Wed. through Sun., April 30 through May 4 with a variety of family-friendly activities. The event is the largest allvolunteer festival on the west coast.

Hope Ranch Animal Rescue to host fundraiser with jazz group in Malibu
'Day in the Country' takes place May 18
      Hope Ranch Animal Rescue, which recently became an official nonprofit organization, is celebrating its new status with a fundraiser in the Malibu countryside. The event, "A Day in the Country," will take place on May 18 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature entertainment by the Westside Jazz ensemble and a silent auction to benefit the animal rescue.

      Todd Bettisworth of Oak Park High School was one of 12 student-athletes recognized by the UC San Diego department of intercollegiate athletics as a recipient of the 2008 National Student-Athlete Day Award.

Scandinavians kick up their heels
     TWO STEP- Agoura Hills resident Nancy Tohl learns the waltz from Monrovia resident Perry Karlsson at the Scandinavian Festival, held at California Lutheran University on Sunday. Tohl's grandparents came from Norway and Karlsson was born in Sweden. The annual festival is presented by the Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation. IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers
