Student to host 'rent' parties Sunday
Event reminiscent of Harlem Renaissance

      Students at Agoura High School are stepping back in time as part of a school project. On Sun., April 13, "rent" parties will be hosted on the campus as the culmination of an English unit on the Harlem Renaissance. In Harlem in the early 1920s, rent parties were thrown by black residents who couldn't afford to pay the exorbitant apartment rents.

Method Fest presents winners
      Melissa Leo and Richard Jenkins won the top acting honors at the 10th annual Method Fest Independent Film Festival awards ceremony on April 3 at Viewpoint School in Calabasas. Leo won the Time Warner Cable Geraldine Page Award for Best Actress for her performance in "Lullaby.

Pepperdine gives concert
      The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division will present its annual Masterworks Concert with the school's concert choir and orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., April 17 at the Smothers Theatre on campus, 24255 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu.
