Students step up to fitness
     LORETTA BROWN/Special to The Acorn TIGERIFFIC- The Brookside Tiger mascot walked to school with students during Fitness Warrior Week from March 31 to April 4. The weeklong celebration ended with a jog-athon at the Oak Park school. The event helped prepare students for participation in the Dole Great Race of Agoura on Saturday.

Charity car show drives in
      The SWAT Support Charity Car Show and Memorial Drive is scheduled for April 27 beginning at 7 a.m. at Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills. The 13-mile Memorial Drive escorted by the Los Angeles Police Department motorcade will start at the Victory and Mason entrance to the college and return to campus for the car show.

Earth Day events at Paramount Ranch
      The Jewish National Fund will sponsor the GoNeutral Walk for Earth Day from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sun., April 13 at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills. The event includes children's activities with Sigaliz, Israeli folk dancing by Riki Rikudim, magician Eran Hafner, and performances by The Mapples and Gilat Rapaport and the Injoy Band.

Making bricks in the old-fashioned way
     STEPHANIE BERTHOLDO/Acorn Newspapers MUD STOMP- Brookside Elementary School students in Paula Stromquist's fourth-grade class visit the Olivas Adobe in Ventura recently to learn about early Californian history. As part of the lesson, students went barefoot in the mud to make bricks similar to the ones used to build the 19th-century Olivas Adobe rancho.

Girl Scouts to recycle
      The White Oak Girl Scout Troop will hold a recycling drive from Mon., April 21 to Fri., April 25 in the multipurpose room and kindergarten drop-off areas at 31761 Village School Road, Westlake Village. Bottles and cans will be accepted from 7:45 to 8:05 a.m. and 2:10 to 2:45 p.m. Proceeds from the drive will go to White Oak Elementary School.

Oak Park Fashion Club styles for a good cause
      Fashion and philanthropy will be in the spotlight during the Oak Park High School Fashion Club's Project Runway at 7 p.m. Fri., April 25 at Nordstrom Topanga. Oak Park students will model the latest spring trends with all proceeds benefiting breast cancer research. The evening includes a reception and raffle, and a breast cancer survivor will speak.
