Local quilter enters global competition

Calabasas-area quilter Jean DellaMonica has been selected as a semifinalist for the 24th annual AQS Quilt Show and Contest April 23 to 26 at the Paducah Expo Center in Paducah, Ky.

DellaMonica has been chosen to join 394 others in the annual contest. Her quilt, Sawtooth Dragon, measures 53 by 53 inches and represents hundreds of hours of work.

The entry was chosen from a field of 798 quilts and the quilt will compete against others within its own category. Three quilting authorities will judge the group prior to the opening of the show.

One quilter will receive the Best of Show Award and a $20,000 cash prize.

In addition, the winning quilt will become part of the permanent collection in the Museum of the American Quilter's Society.

The annual exhibition brings more than 35,000 quilters, collectors, enthusiasts and vendors to Paducah each spring. Entries arrive are from 43 states and 11 other countries.
