Agoura High auto class hits the road
      Agoura High School students John "JD" Theodosiou and Brandon Patterson and their auto class teacher John Andersen may not have taken first place in the 2008 National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City, but the three still felt like winners.

Bad check writing alleged
      Oxnard resident Scott B. Whitenack, 49, an attorney who practiced law in Westlake village, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of writing and passing checks with nonsufficient funds. Whitenack wrote and passed three checks totaling $340 with insufficient funds in his business checking account between July 29, 2007 and Sept. 9, 2007.

Football booster club treasurer is arrested for embezzlement
He allegedly stole more than $30,000
      The man who served as Thousand Oaks High School Football Booster Club treasurer for more than 2½ years has been arrested for allegedly embezzling the money he volunteered to help keep an eye on. Michael McCarley, 59, turned himself in to the Thousand Oaks Sheriff's Station March 12.

Workshop will help homeless
      Representatives from the Conejo Affordable Housing Workgroup are asking those interested in fighting homelessness in the area to attend a series of meetings to discuss strategies. Subcommittee meetings will be held at Thousand Oaks City Hall at 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd. in the Acorn Room, and will take place the first Wednesday of every month.

What's that eye in the sky?
     JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers TRAFFIC CHECK- A new camera stands perched on a light pole at the intersection of Kanan Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Agoura Hills, but the device isn't there for law enforcement. It's part of a Kanan Road signal synchronization project by the city of Agoura Hills. The camera signal is fed to city hall to help officials better coordinate the flow of traffic.

Rankin and his wife Vicky rent two parcels in the garden and plant a wide variety of flowers and produce. The garden is on Kanan Road.
