The 'children's money' is being wasted As a parent of few Oak Park Unified school children, I want to voice my anger. I have been asked to write letters to the California governor and senators to complain about the budget cuts. Apparently no one saw this coming. Our state is going broke. I avoided LAUSD and moved here for the better education for my children. I attended LAUSD schools and saw them changing when I was there. I see the governor cutting the school budgets and my anger is not only at the governor. My anger is at the parents who continue to hire illegal immigrant housekeepers, gardeners and construction labor, encouraging the depletion of all of our school tax dollars. The hospitals are closing. The schools are bleeding to death. The free welfare and medical aid is draining the life out of Los Angeles and the surrounding counties and no one seems to believe it. It is a warm and fuzzy feeling to know that we want to help the poor and we do. However, it is similar to helping a drowning victim. You'd better hope they don't pull you under and kill you while you are trying to save them. This is the sign of the times. There are no more interesting electives in school and there haven't been for years. Good teachers will be lost and letters will be written. There is no doubt that somehow the governor will find some extra money to help at the last minute but we are merely prolonging the inevitable. We all have to take responsibility for the decline that we have encouraged. Cynthia Townsley Oak Park |
