Trees make a difference

SEEDS OF TOMORROW- Children help put a sycamore tree into the ground during last Saturday's Arbor Day planting at Gates Canyon Park in Calabasas. On a nearby barren hillside, several dozen oak trees were also planted. Calabasas is celebrating its 10th year as an official Tree City U.S.A. Arbor Day began in the late 1800s in Nebraska where trees were needed to provide shade and erosion relief for the empty plains.
