Local lacrosse action heats up

With an 8-7 win over Agoura last week, Newbury Park (2-0) closed to within a win of first place in the Southern California Lacrosse Association's Conejo Valley Varsity League.

Although Agoura (3-1) lost its first game of the season, they also beat Calabasas 12-4 earlier in the week to remain a game ahead of Newbury Park in the win column.

Calabasas (0-3) also fell to Westlake this week, 15-3. It was Westlake's (1-2) first win of the season. Westlake's is in a tie for third place with Thousand Oaks (11) in the win column. T.O. was off last week.

On Friday, Newbury Park will look to move into the league's top spot when they take on crosstown rival Thousand Oaks.

On Sunday, Newbury Park will play Calabasas, while Thousand Oaks will matchup against Westlake. All games will be played at Newbury Park High.

Friday's game will begin at 6:30 p.m., while Sunday's action starts at noon.
