College football commitments rolling in

National signing day is next Wednesday, but many local high school football players have already made verbal commitments to colleges throughout the nation.

Westlake High place kicker/ punter Jordan Mannisto has committed to the University of Houston. According to the website CougarsDen.com, Mannisto also entertained offers from Nevada, Wyoming, Rice and Iowa State, as well as invitations to walk on at USC and San Diego State.

Mannisto's teammates, running back Cooper Shockley and defensive end Tommy Doupe, also made commitments.

Shockley will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy, while Doupe will be going to Cornell.

Oak Park linebacker Sean Westgate has committed to UCLA. Westgate previously committed to the University of Arizona.

Agoura quarterback Doug Shumway agreed to play at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

A ceremony for local recruits will be held Wednesday at the Palm Garden Hotel in Thousand Oaks. - Thomas Gase
