Residents participate in Rose Parade Nine former queens participated in Tuesday's 119th Rose Parade in Pasadena, including Julie Myers-King of Agoura Hills, who was crowned in 1988. Myers-King grew up in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School. She graduated from UCLA and now resides in Agoura Hills with her husband, Curt, and three sons- 12yearold identical twins Kevin and Steven and 8-year-old Jeffrey. Myers-King currently enjoys working in a classroom of kindergarteners at Yerba Buena Elementary School in Agoura Hills as a teacher's aide. In her spare time she is a Cub Scout den leader and an avid genealogist. Myers-King said she was "thrilled" to be with her fellow "sisters" in saluting the Rose Parade. The theme of this year's New Year's Day parade was "Passport to the World's Celebrations." Students also involved Jason Schreiber and Sarah Tudzin, tenth grade students at Calabasas High School, performed in the Rose Parade with the Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band. Jason, a trumpet player, and Sarah, a percussionist, performed with the band while marching the five-and-a-half-mile parade route down Colorado Boulevard, said Sherri Schreiber, Jason's mother and a member of the school's music boosters. The students auditioned to participate with the honor band in October, Schreiber said. Weekly rehearsals started in November, but during winter break the band rehearsed daily. In addition to the Rose Parade, the band performed at Disneyland and participated in Bandfest, which included performances from many of the same bands that marched in the Rose Parade. Schreiber said 2008 marks the second year her son has performed in the parade. It was Sarah's first year of participation. The more than 200-member band included Pasadena City College students and many high school students from the region. |
