Oak Park student leads Sight Night campaign

BreeLayne Ring, 16, a student at Oak Park High School, recently led a Sight Night campaign in the Oak Park community.

Sight Night was launched by BreeLayne's older sister, Brighton, in 2004. Sight Night is part of a national collection drive conducted annually by "Give the Gift of Sight," a group of charitable vision care programs sponsored by the Lens Crafters Foundation in conjunction with Lions Clubs International.

The mission is to provide recycled eyeglasses to citizens in the world's most desperate developing countries. Through donations and fundraisers, millions of adults and children in 23 countries have received free eye exams and recycled eyeglasses.

BreeLayne set up donation sites in local libraries and collected more than 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses which will be cleaned, repaired, cataloged and delivered by Lions Club's representatives to disadvantaged people worldwide.

BreeLayne received the Lions Club community service award in honor of her campaign.
