Drive organized for Ventura kids

Support for the Kids is collecting toys to be given to children in need in Ventura County.

"Our goal for this year is to reach 6,000 children who would not otherwise receive presents this holiday season," said Lynda Miller, president and founder of Support for the Kids.

The all-volunteer group will distribute toys, books and gift cards to foster and underprivileged children in Ventura County right up until Christmas Day.

Hollywood Storage, at 3425 Old Conejo Road in Newbury Park, is joining 50 local businesses as a collection center. Donations will be accepted in the lobby from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sun., Dec. 23.

Donors will be entered to win a Starbucks gift basket and, additionally, families and groups of all kinds can receive a free photo with Santa from noon to 4 p.m. Sat., Dec. 22.

Hollywood Storage is also a USPS location and will provide complimentary cookies and hot cocoa during the holiday season.

Support for the Kids was founded by Lynda Miller in 2000 to provide educational enrichment and comprehensive services for underprivileged and foster children and their families in Ventura County. Its primary programs include tutoring and support classes for the children and their families, and social events throughout the year.
