Calabasas Cheetahs track team extends sign-ups

The Calabasas Cheetahs Youth Track and Field Team held sign-ups for its 2008 track season on Dec. 15. A second date for sign-ups will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sat., Jan. 12 in the Calabasas High School parking lot, 22855 Mulholland Hwy.

Sign-ups are available online at www.calabasascheetahs.com.

Registration is first come, first served as space is limited.

The Calabasas Cheetahs Track and Field team ranges in age from 5 to 15. Any level, from beginner to advanced, is welcome. The nonprofit club is part of the Valley Youth Conference.

Children learn and participate in running events from 100 meters up to 3,000 meters (about 1.8 miles), high jump, long jump, hurdles, shot put and relay.

Athletes will participate in eight track meets against other league teams.

A copy of the athlete's birth certificate or passport is required to register. The $150 registration fee includes uniforms, trophies, pictures and banquet.

Practice will begin on March 3 at Calabasas High School. Athletes will practice on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Adults are invited to assist with coaching. Training is provided.

Over the past five years, the club has had numerous athletes qualify for the Junior Olympics. The team philosophy is to coach with a positive attitude that enables the child to strive to do their best and develop consistency.
