Better get used to the school plan Warning! The residents of Old Agoura are in grave danger. They live in a "wildfire" zone. Their homes are in danger. Their kids are in danger (is Social Services aware of this?). Their penned-up animals are in more danger (are the ASPCA and PETA aware of this?). So much for this argument against Heschel. This argument is hopelessly far-reaching and bogus. Granted, the hills and fields are beautiful and in a perfect world we could have stayed the way we were when I got here 27 years ago when Agoura had 3,500 people, Oak Park was not yet a reality, Kanan was just a road to the beach and horses ruled. On the other hand, the Cheseboro interchange/congestion has been ignored by the City Council for 25 years, the council delivers false promises, and incites the locals that Heschel can be stopped. The short-term thinking that our councils are famous for have poisoned shouldbe rational minds. The greater Los Angeles area is expected to grow by another 5 million to 7 million people by 2020 and if you're questioning this number, then again you're guilty of short-term thinking and generally not paying attention. The Heschel property is on countycontrolled land. Therefore, we had better embrace the school/project, fix the problems around it now, see how the project will work and provide facilities for the entire community, instead of fighting the project and having Heschel sell it to someone else who in 10 years will build a super Wal-Mart. If any of you want to truly put your efforts where it will count, stop the council from building Agoura Village. That project affects the entire city, not just 12 homes in Old Agoura. Consider the long-term effect. If Agoura Village is built, you will see immitigable traffic gridlock and no one will want to live in Agoura Hills. Then you will truly see a wildfire, except it will be one of dropping property values in a city where Agoura Hills will be known as the environmentally disastrous parking lot at the entry to the Santa Monica Mountains. Put your fears and efforts where it really counts. Dan Crisafulli Agoura Hills |
