Students raise funds for school damaged in fire

St. Jude the Apostle School in Weslake Village raised $300 in a "Free Dress for a Dollar Day" as a fundraiser to help Our Lady of Malibu, which had suffered damage due to the recent fires.

Student Council officer and eighth-grader Richard Fasani wanted to help the school after he was given a tour of the campus. He learned that the school had lost the computer lab and work space for the faculty photocopier. The seventh- and eighth-grade classrooms are also unusable.

The girls' volleyball team presented the check during an away game at Our Lady of Malibu.

Student Council President Marissa Mackel said, "I felt that our school did a great deed in caring about OLM. It touched me deeply that our one school, with only 259 students, helped OLM out so much."

St. Jude students will also support the Santa Comes to Agoura Food Drive and the parish AdoptA-Family program in December.
