A silver anniversary for Agoura Hills Earlier this year, the annual Reyes Adobe Days was hosted by the city and the response by residents was strongly supportive. This was also the year the long-awaited Kanan Road/101 Freeway interchange opened to traffic. Advances were made in the Agoura Village plan and construction began wrapping up at the new furniture showrooms on Canwood Street. Agoura Hills has come a long way since the days when the city fought to eliminate freeway pole signs and deal with various growth and development issues. Doubts existed as to whether a new city in these parts could survive at all as an entity apart from the county. But it did, and has become a thriving community with an emphasis on good schools, support for family life, and improving and preserving the environment. The road ahead, however, remains difficult. Talk persists about the new freeway interchange and whether its shortcomings can be overcome. Concern also is growing over the Agoura Village mixed-use development and whether it will be a blessing or a curse to the business and residential community. Regardless of what happens to the village plans, we favor the construction next year of a proposed traffic roundabout at Kanan and Agoura roads. The need for a traffic circle at this busy intersection couldn't be greater. The freeway interchange at Reyes Adobe Road also needs attention and a truce must be declared in the ongoing dispute with Heschel West school near Old Agoura. In Agoura Hills, there remains much work to be done. While the city's first quarter of a century brought many positive changes and accomplishments, we're confident that the best is yet to come. From The Acorn, one of the oldest businesses in town, happy silver anniversary, Agoura Hills. | |||||
