Time capsule opened and is now on display at Reyes Adobe
The historic cache was buried by the city of Agoura Hills during the U.S. bicentennial and its excavation this year is part of the city's 25th anniversary celebration. On display is the time capsule container with contents that include two photo albums of historical pictures, publications, silkscreen T-shirts, pin-on buttons, a Sears catalogue and other artifacts. The tradition of creating an official time capsule was introduced in 1937, but the idea dates back to the time of ancient Mesopotamia when civilizations first invented the idea of stashing goods and documents to communicate their cultures to those in the future. Reyes Adobe docents will be highlighting the time capsule during tours of the city's 1845 rancho adobe home and grounds through the end of the year. December's public tours are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 8, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 11. Special group tours also can be arranged. The suggested donation is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children 5 to 11. Children under 5 get in free. The Reyes Adobe is at 5464 Reyes Adobe Road, Agoura Hills.
