Saddened by Lupin Hill story

I was both sadden and disturbed to read the story in The Acorn (Nov. 15) about the incident in the rest room at Lupin Hill Elementary School, but I wasn't angry. Sodomy by 8year-olds is so rare that there were obviously other factors at play. So while my biggest sympathies were with the victims, I was also concerned about the two boys who perpetrated the acts.

But then as I continued reading, I learned that the family of one of the boys is suing the school district for "negligent supervision" and that's when I became angry. Since when does an 8-year-old need supervision to know it's wrong to sodomize other children? Since when does an 8-year-old even know about sodomy?

The family should be concerned with what is clearly a very troubled boy; instead, they are trying to exploit and, unbelievably, profit from this very tragic situation. For that they should be ashamed and so should their attorney, Adams Sacks.

I've always been a big defender of the legal system and feel that lawyers are an essential part of a free society. But it's lawyers like Mr. Sacks who give the profession a bad name. Matt Healy Westlake Village
