Why not have local rent control?

I am writing in response to the Nov. 15 story "Renters fed up with constant cost increases." I was outraged that Archstone is ripping the renters off and the mayor and council just look the other way. If the city doesn't do something about it, who can? Enact rent control.

It isn't shameful to have rent control. Other respectable cities such as Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Los Angeles have rent control. Is Calabasas too good for such measures to protect their constituents?

Calabasas shouldn't just be concerned about the affluent and arrogantly forget how hard it is to make a living nowadays. Renters are just as much a part of the city and they deserve to have affordable rent that doesn't increase in jumps.

This is the tip of the iceberg of the housing problem we have in this area. The city of Calabasas has an opportunity to do something to help and they should. Christina Chiang Agoura Hills
