Rent increases are hard to take

Thank you very much for your article about the rent increases at Archstone Calabasas.

I have lived there for over seven years. The rent increases since Archstone bought the complex have been outrageous. I am so glad someone is speaking out about it.

I do not want to move. My apartment is five minutes away from work. I feel safe there.

Last year they wanted to raise my rent an additional $355 per month. The year before that it went up $285 per month. It is a one bedroom apartment. They wanted $1,955 per month last year!

I spent some time looking for a new place to live. I then went into the office and had a meltdown. They agreed to shave it down to $1,825 per month. I agreed only because of the cost of moving, the time involved in moving, the paperwork, the down payment, etc. Deborah Burr Calabasas
