Rummage sale donations will help Malibu church to rebuild facility

NEW START- Members and the pastor of Malibu Presbyterian Church, children from the church's preschool and their mothers, a teacher, and staff from the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center visit the site of the burned-down church and preschool. Adults from left are Jenna Herbick, Karen Redondo, Emily Sainz, the Rev. Greg Hughes, Kathryn Palmer and Michelle Fozounmayeh.
The Malibu Presbyterian Church and Preschool will hold a fundraiser on Sat., Dec. 1 at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center. The church and preschool were destroyed in the Oct. 21 Malibu fire.

The school children are being housed at the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue through the end of the year, and the congregation worships wherever it can find space, lately at the Malibu Center for the Performing Arts.

Items in good used condition and new items are welcome. All donations are tax-deductible.

Donors should go to the front desk at the Community Center and ask for Jenna Herbick for assistance with drop-offs. The PODS company donated a storage container for the event.

"This is another step forward toward rebuilding our school," said Cindy Ludwig, director of the preschool. "The children are very happily settled at the Malibu Jewish Center, but we are looking forward to being back on our own site."

The congregation includes residents from Malibu, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks.

"We are working as hard as we can to get the rebuilding process moving," Ludwig said.

The fundraiser is part of the Community Center's annual garage sale from 7 a.m. until noon on Dec. 1. Shoppers and sellers are welcome, and admission is free throughout the day. The Community Center is at 27040 Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas, next to the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.
