Kang concludes amazing golf run
By Stephen Dorman sdorman@theacorn.com

Danielle Kang. Remember the name.

Kang, a 15yearold sophomore at Oak Park High, shot a 77 on Monday at the Women's Southern California Golf Association Championship Tournament in Murrieta.

Although her score garnered a top15 finish, Kang didn't advance to the CIF State Championship at Poppy Hills.

Still, according to OPHS assistant coach Donn James, Kang's postseason run, which included a win at a freelance qualifier at Rio Hondo Golf Course and a qualifying finish in Diamond Bar last week at the CIF-Southern Section Girls' Golf Individual Championship, was one of the greatest in OPHS history.

"There have been two others who've made it to state before," James said. "But Danielle made it as far as any of our male golfers ever have."

Oak Park doesn't have a girls' team, although that could change as early as next fall, James said. As she did during her freshman campaign, Kang will compete for the Eagle boys' squad in the spring.

When she was 14, Kang, a nationally ranked junior golfer, qualified for the U.S. Women's Open.

"She has a wealth of talent, and I expect her to be the best female golfer to ever come out of this area, bar none," James said. "She has world-class talent."
