Dickens Christmas show opens in Santa Paula

The Santa Paula Theater Center will present "A Dickens Radio Christmas" from Nov. 16 through Dec. 23 at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S. 7th St., Santa Paula.

Performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 pm Sunday.

The show is a re-creation of a live broadcast of Charles Dickens' holiday tale "Cricket on the Hearth." Set in 1944 New York at WEAF Radio, the production features live sound effects, original commercials and comedy as a rag-tag team of amateurs tries to present a live radio show.

Written and directed by Fred Helsel, this production features an original adaptation of "Cricket on the Hearth" by Lowell Manfull and Helsel.
