Responding to 'doublespeak' charges

If Dr. Ian Taras (letter to the editor, Acorn, Oct. 18) struggled with the "big words" in my father's (Larry Brown's) letter, he should have referred to a dictionary. What he calls "double speak" was perfectly clear, so I will explain the answers to his rhetorical questions.

Equestrians of Old Agoura are not "ranch hands" any more than those who enjoy skiing are Swiss yodelers. His condescension aside, those who enjoy equestrian pursuits are the very "yuppies" he unwittingly refers to. Would Dr. Taras opt to build a large campus on a ski slope?

"The difference in density" between Heschel West, Agoura Village and Triangle Ranch is that Agoura Village, whatever its flaws, is not on top of a residential neighborhood and Triangle Ranch is a proposed residential neighborhood. While my father does not endorse these projects, they are exponentially different from Heschel, an obvious distinction that Dr. Taras refuses to acknowledge.

Taras can't comprehend why soaking Agoura taxpayers for millions in Heschel traffic mitigation for a privileged few might be frowned on by our City Council.

He first has to open his eyes and take the cotton out of his ears. Maybe then he can understand the "big words" in my dad's letters. Sharili Brown Agoura Hills
