Our children are 'self-destructing'
I was reading The Acorn last night and I came to a stark realization. There were back to back articles about violence directed at our children by our children: The article in which two 8-year-old Lupin Hill students were accused of sexual assault and the article on my daughter's car bei...

Don't blame the messenger
As a journalist, current law student and an American who believes deeply in the Constitution, I was virtually sickened by the reaction of our school board to The Acorn story, "Lupin Hill students charged in sex case" (Nov. 8).

All is well in the village
It seems as I wake up this morning, Nov. 7, in Westlake Village, we do still have a "village" in Westlake. The voters have spo ken and spoken very, very well. The two most able, wellbalanced and forwardlooking candidates have been chosen to help lead our community for the next four years.

Responding to 'doublespeak' charges
If Dr. Ian Taras (letter to the editor, Acorn, Oct. 18) struggled with the "big words" in my father's (Larry Brown's) letter, he should have referred to a dictionary. What he calls "double speak" was perfectly clear, so I will explain the answers to his rhetorical questions.

Countrywide layoffs ignored
I checked the recent Sheriff's Blotter for any mention of the recent rape and pillage at Countrywide. Enormous financial remuneration for their management team while overseeing huge financial losses necessitating in part massive firings were evidently no match for stolen IPods, backpacks or...

'Thank you' from Malibu church
As many people know, Malibu Presbyterian Church was lost in the recent local fire. Also lost was the Malibu Presbyterian Nursery School which has served the communities of Malibu, Monte Nido, Calabasas and Agoura Hills for over 40 years.

Gratitude should come naturally
Business schools nationwide preach the doctrine of growing a successful business with quality products and services and ongoing customer rapport. Keeping in touch. Solving problems. Showing your appreciation. Saying thanks to your customers is more than a one-day turkey event. It's common cou...
