Students mutiny healthy food Oak Park students are definitely noticing the change in their cafeteria menu. Because everything is healthier, it does not mean that it tastes better. Today, my elementary school boys came home and told me that they don't want to take another bite of any of the cafeteria food. The only thing they will eat now is the pizza. My boys would say that the food tastes disgusting. The cheese in the mac 'n' cheese is like glue. The grilled cheese is now with mozzarella cheese. The mini-corn dogs are yellow. The hot dog smells and looks bad but is fun to play with. It would seem that the cafeteria food is worth throwing. Our school already had an issue with that this year. This month, our menu has had some problems. I would send my boys off to school expecting that lunch was one thing but something else was served. This particular day, they served a chicken leg. My boys would not eat it because it had veins in it. You can't force a kid to eat what is dished out to them, especially at school. On days where they wouldn't eat the cafeteria food, they drank the milk and ate the fruit. The cost of that was over $3. If the cafeteria messes with the pizza, my boys will be in tears. I am disappointed that changes were made to so many foods. They should have started slowly and changed the popular items last. Cara Levin Oak Park |
