More heat for Heschel West

I went to the library to see for myself the plans for the Heschel School. I could not believe what I saw on the plans for ingress and egress. The Heschel School has an easement between the gas station and the property on the corner of Chesebro and Driver. That is the in and out access to the Heschel school. There is a fire exit on Chesebro.

In the event of a daytime fire or other emergency, Driver is the only escape route for the families north of Driver on Chesebro, Colodny, Balkins and Fairview. They could be trapped and have to try and walk out of the area. There are approximately 2,200 students already at Agoura High on the west, and adding another 700 from Heschel School on the east is a disaster waiting to happen, and people could be trapped with no way out.

The last fire we had in Agoura was about two years ago. We were ordered to evacuate in the afternoon. We could see the flames coming behind my property in Chesebro National Park, which is right behind the Heschel property. Thank goodness our wonderful deputies saw to the evacuation and our heroic firefighters got the fire under control.

Driver Avenue is a narrow country road that can never be widened. I understand there are other locations available for the Heschel School, but the school officials refuse to consider other locations, even though their project is undesirable and could be a grave danger for the residents.

If you live near the Heschel School project I encourage you to go the library and check the plans and traffic pattern for this project. Joanne Calhoun Agoura Hills
