Local philanthropists to be honored The Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will honor the 2008 award winners in philanthropy, volunteerism and professional fundraising at the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tues., Nov. 13 at Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort, 633 E. Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara. Award recipients from Ventura County include Mary and Richard Carpenter, and Sue Chadwick. The Carpenters recently had a park at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza named for them, as well as a scholarship program in Richard Carpenter's name. They contribute time and money to many organizations through the Carpenter Family Foundation. He is the founder and prime benefactor of the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center at Cal State Long Beach. They live in Thousand Oaks with their five children. Chadwick is involved in many community activities, including board chair of St. John's Healthcare Foundation, United Way of Ventura County, Museum of Ventura County, Ventura County Economic Development Association, California Lutheran University, KCLU Advisory Board and Oxnard Rotary Club.
