Program will put readers on same page

The Agoura Hills One City, One Book program will culminate with a variety of special events next week, according to city officials.

The program invited Agoura Hills residents to read the same book at the same time- three books, actually, two of which were written with younger readers in mind.

High school students will discuss the book, "Tortilla Curtain," on Mon., Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Agoura High School. The program was organized by the school's English teachers, but will be lead by students.

At 3:30 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 6 the Agoura Hills Library will host a "Kids Cultural Costume and Book Party." Stephanie Gordon, author of "Something's Happening on Calabasas Street," will lead the discussion for children.

T.C. Boyle, the internationally acclaimed author of "Tortilla Curtain" and other highly-celebrated titles, will read from his book at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 8 at Reyes Adobe Park.

The reading program will end with an art contest based on "Esperanza Rising," which was the book chosen for middle school students as part of the One City, One Book program.

The contest will be conducted at the Agoura Hills Public Library on Sat., Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.

The authors will also sign books at the events.
