At The Library

Agoura Hills Library, a branch of the Los Angeles County Public Library at 29901 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills, will present a variety of activities during November. For more information, call (818-889-2278).

•The Friends of the Library is one of the sponsors of One City, One Book, the citywide Agoura Hills Reads program. The three books in the program are "Tortilla Curtain" by T.C.Boyle for Agoura High School students and adults; "Esperanza Rising" by Pam Muñoz Ryan for middle school children; and "Something's Happening on Calabash Street" by Stephanie Jacob Gordon for elementary school children.

Gordon will visit the library at 3:30 p.m. Tues. Nov. 6. There will also be a Kids' Cultural Costumes and Book Parade that afternoon. At 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 10 Friends of the Library will sponsor an art contest related to "Esperanza Rising."

Copies of the three books are available at the library.

•Story time for children will be held through Dec. 11. Preschool time for children ages 3 to 5 is Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Toddler Time for children ages 1 to 2 is Wednesdays at 11 a.m.

•Teens can compete in the Gaming TAG Super Smash Brothers Melee Tournament from noon to 4 p.m. Sat., Nov. 3. There is a $2 entry fee. Snacks will be sold and prizes awarded.

•The library is starting a book club for children ages 9, 10 and 11. The next meeting, discussing "The Wreckers" by Iain Lawrence, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wed., Nov. 14. Books are available at the library. Participants will make a craft. Refreshments will be available.

•Doris Lessing, the 2007 Nobel Prize winner for literature, is the featured author in the Friends' Reading Room display case. She received the Nobel for "The Golden Notebook."

•The Book Cellar is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store sells books for children and adults, audio books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes and magazines. Paperback books start at 50 cents and hardcover books $1. Donations are accepted by Friends of the Agoura Hills Library.
