Cellist makes solo debut

The New West Symphony's second 200708 Masterpiece Series concert will be at 8 p.m. Sat.Oct. 20 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Thousand Oaks.

The program will feature the symphony's principal cellist Mark Tanner in his solo debut with the orchestra. Tanner will play Concerto No1 in Eflat Major for Cello and Orchestra, Opus 107 by Dmitri Shostakovich.

Tanner began his cello studies at the age of eight with Joel Krosnick. A year later, Aldo Parisot, a cello teacher at Yale University, accepted him as a studentHe remained with Parisot for 15 years, receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees from Yale.

A winner of top prizes in several international competitionsTanner has appeared with orchestras throughout the United States

New West Symphony music director Boris Brott will conduct three performances of the program that will include the Overture to William Tell by Gioacchino Rossini and Antonín Dvoøák's Symphony No. 9 in Eminor, Opus 95, "From the New World."
