Westlake Yacht Club gears up for regatta
High school students to compete in October 14 event

SMOOTH SAILING- Boats skim across the surface of Westlake Lake during a recent sailing competition. This year's Louise Kapus Memorial Regatta, at which high school sailors compete, will be on Sunday at the Westlake Yacht Club. The Westlake Yacht Club will host the Louise Kapus Memorial Regatta on Sun., Oct. 14. A skipper's meeting will take place at 12:30 p.m., and the races will begin at 1 p.m., weather permitting. Spectators can observe the race from the Westlake shore.

Junior sailors between the ages of 9 and 14 will participate in the regatta. Roberto Stevens won the recent Olympic Gold medallion in an 8-foot Sabot. Roberto, from Agoura, and 15 other junior sailors are preparing for the upcoming Sabot High Point series that will be held at the Santa Monica Yacht Club in three weeks.

Senior Yacht Club members will compete in the C-18-foot fleet.

High school students from Agoura, Chaminade and Westlake high schools will compete in the Flying J sailboats. Two teams will be selected to participate at the Oyster Regatta held in Monterey. These sailors compete in high school races during the school year. The Flying J is a one-design, two-handed boat used in high school sailing throughout the United States.
