Mountains Restoration Trust to lead nature hikes in October

NATURE'S ARTWORK- The Mountains Restoration Trust will show hikers some of the pristine beauty in our local mountains in a series of hikes this month. For more information or reservations, call (818) 591-1701 or visit www.mountainstrust.org.
The Mountains Restoration Trust will conduct a series of hikes this month. The trust is at 3815 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Calabasas.

•Sat., Oct. 13, 9 a.m.: Second Saturday walk in Cold Creek Preserve. Learn how plants and animals survive long periods of drought. Bring water and a snack. Meet at the lower gate to the preserve, 1.2 miles up Stunt Road from Mulholland Highway in Calabasas. Approximately three hours. Reservations required.

•Sun., Oct. 21, 9:30 a.m.: Cold Creek Canyon Preserve, "Autumn's Allure." Look for fall colors along a stream-fed canyon filled with a variety of flora and fauna in Cold Creek Canyon Preserve. Meet at the lower gate to the preserve. Approximately two and a half hours. Tour is led by Cold Creek docents. Reservations required.

•Sun., Oct. 21, 4:30 p.m.: Cold Creek Preserve, moonrise/ sunset stroll. This is a 2-mile walk offering views of distant mountain ranges, sandstone outcroppings and the Santa Monica Bay. Bring supper, water and a treat to share. Meet at the top of Stunt Road. Approximately three hours.
