      Jews revere the Torah scroll as one of the greatest gifts given by God to the Jewish people. Written by hand by a trained scribe using a quill, specially prepared ink and parchment derived from a kosher animal (usually a cow), the Torah contains the five books of Moses.

Halloween carnival coming
      Christian Church of the Hills will host its fifth annual free Halloween carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. Sat., Oct. 27 at the church, 29295 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills. There will be moon bounces, costume and limbo contests, games and pie throwing booths.

Temple hosts magic show
      Temple Beth Haverim will host "Magic and Mitzvahs" from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 21 at 29900 Ladyface Court, in Agoura Hills. Eight professional and amateur magicians will perform. The magicians are all members of the Hollywood Chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
