FOR THE RECORD

The story about "skimmers," which are devices used by thieves to steal bank card information, incorrectly stated that smart card technology is embedded into the magnetic stripes of driver's licences.

A smart card is an integrated circuit computer chip that securely stores information attached to electronic passports and some bank cards.

Smart cards are not currently used in any state-issued driver's license, and bank cards with smart card technology have not been linked with the reported skimming fraud.
