Oak Park death investigated
By Sophia Fischer sfischer@theacorn.com

The death of a 23-year-old Oak Park man is being investigated by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Daniel Saltzman was pronounced dead at 12:04 p.m. on Mon., Sept. 24. Police said a 911 call was received at 11:25 that morning from someone at the home in the 4000 block of Castella Way.

When fire department paramedics arrived at the residence in the Capri condominium complex, attempts were made to revive Saltzman but to no avail.

The cause of Saltzman's death has not been determined. "We suspect drugs and alcohol were involved, but we won't know until we get the (toxicology) reports" in three to four months, said James Baroni, Ventura County chief deputy medical examiner.

"It does not appear to be a crime, but because it was a suspicious death it is being investigated by our crimes unit," said sheriff's Capt. Bill Flannigan. He said police visited the residence earlier this year to investigate reports of attempted arson and vandalism.

Detective Sgt. Steve Rhods said the case is considered an open investigation.

"Some aspects of this need to be looked at," Rhods said.
