Drivers, please take it easy Maybe I'm just getting older, more conservative, more cautious. Or perhaps it's because I'm self-employed, work from home and don't have to deal with the daily grind of commuting. But over the past few years I've observed to my great disappointment and dismay that drivers in Agoura, Calabasas, Westlake and all our local neighborhoods are traveling much, much faster than the speed limit and are significantly more rude and aggressive. What is our Sheriff's Department doing about it? Seemingly nothing. What we need is some enforcement. How about handing out some tickets to the speeders on Agoura Road, Kanan and Lindero? It has become a freeway out there. Let's send a message to the drivers who roll through the stop sign at Chesebro. I'm sick of being tail-gated on the city streets of my own neighborhood when I'm driving the legal speed limit. When I'm riding my bicycle, I'm tired of being flipped off by impatient motorists who can't wait 10 seconds until it's safe to pass. I'm horrified when I see an innocent pedestrian in the Albertsons/Starbucks parking lot get mowed down by a speeding driver. The CHP has slowed down motorists on Mulholland between Las Virgenes and Kanan by giving tickets out there. Enforcing the law sends a message and it's working. It sure would be nice for our local law enforcement to do the same on our city streets. Agoura used to have a small-town feel. Let's get that back. And to the drivers out there, think before you get behind the wheel. Your life can't be so busy or so hurried that you can't slow down and consider the safety and security of your fellow motorists, especially in our own towns. The roads are becoming more dangerous for bicyclists, pedestrians and law-abiding motorists. It's time to do something about it. Deborah Bowling Agoura Hills |
