Other local football matchups

ADAM DAVIS/Acorn Newspapers STIFF ARM- Viewpoint running back Tucker Trainer breaks free from the pack during last Saturday's win over Fairmont Prep.
NPHS (2-0) at Oak Park (2-0)

Outlook: If Friday night belongs to Oaks Christian vs. St. Bonaventure, then Thursday night is all about Newbury Park facing off against Oak Park.

Both teams' defenses have been firing on all cylinders early on. It's tough to give either squad an edge in this matchup.

Offensively, Oak Park has been unstoppable on the ground. The Eagles have rushed for 623 yards in two games and are averaging 44.5 rushing attempts per contest. OPHS has six players who have five or more rushing attempts.

Newbury Park quarterback Colby Cameron hasn't had a breakout performance to date, but running back Chris Brown has been as good as advertised.

Villanova (1-2) at Viewpoint (2-0)

Outlook: Viewpoint's football team is off to a very impressive start this season.

In their first two games, the Patriots defeated Twin Pines 23-0 and Fairmont Prep 240. VHS recorded six sacks and four fumble recoveries during the pair of wins.

Head coach Patrick Marquez's offensive attack has been led by running backs Jamie WheelerSilverman and Tucker Trainer, both of whom are averaging nearly eight yards per carry.

Wheeler-Silverman has five of the team's six offensive touchdowns thus far.

Quarterback Harrison Bernsen has been efficient, completing 11of-22 pass attempts for 84 yards.

Today's game is at 4 p.m.
