Goodbye to a good man

Reading Sept. 6 letters to the editor, a tribute to Vance Moran from Eileen Kahn caught my attention. I had read the article about his death last week and had intended to write about my memories of him. With his passing, a passing of Old Agoura went with him.

I met Vance in 1974. Union Federal savings had just been awarded a branch in Agoura, and I was appointed to find a location. As Whizins' Center was the only option available, I approached Vance and, through him, Art Whizin. They provided a space on Roadside Drive. At that time, the post office was on Roadside Drive, and the grocery store was just being built.

We opened on June 1, 1974. Art had the first account. Over the next six months I got to know Vance well. He and I sometimes didn't agree on things, but we respected each other. He was very community-oriented and often talked to me about participating in local and school events. With him gone, I guess Mel Adams is the only old-timer left.

Vance was a very good man. Larry Averill Westlake Village
