Misses the old Agoura High field

Regarding the article "Agoura High School kicks off football season on new synthetic sports field" in the Sept. 13 Acorn, I can only guess that the new football field at Agoura High School is great, because I can only see it from afar. The revolving and open gates that once allowed access to the track and field to all community members have been replaced by locked gates and higher fences.

Living next to the high school means dealing with the high school's daily traffic and the noise and cars parked in our neighborhood for special events and football games. But it also means that we have had easy access to great facilities such as the tennis and basketball courts, the track and field, even the pool for a fee in the summer.

For years my family and my neighbors have used the track and field as a safe place to exercise and train. We now find ourselves locked out of a facility that we have helped fund.

Perhaps the new field is a great gain for the football players at the school, but its need to restrict access is an unfortunate loss to the local community. Lisa Ryder Agoura Hills
