Westside Remodeling gets Energy Star of approval

Westside Remodeling of Westlake Village has been designated as an official Home Performance with Energy Star contractor by a state-sponsored training organization.

Home Performance Contracting is holistically diagnosing and upgrading all of a home's comfort and energy systems so they work together for maximum efficiency.

The diagnosis, known as California's Healthy House Solution, takes a couple of hours and uses scientific instruments and techniques to analyze such things as air flows, heat exchange, backdrafting, moisture barriers and other energy and comfort issues. It also checks combustion appliance safety, looks for hidden mold and examines the physical structure for safety hazards.

According to Westside President Bob Sturgeon, even new homes don't perform at peak efficiency. By raising their home's performance level, many homeowners save as much as 40 percent on energy costs and get a cleaner, safer house for asthma and allergy sufferers.

Westside contractors were trained and authorized by the California Building Performance Contractors Association, a nonprofit funded by California energy ratepayers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.

The first step takes about two hours and analyzes sources of dust, pollen and pollutants penetrating the house, heating and air conditioning systems, duct leakage, insulation levels and more. The result is a detailed analysis of how all the systems are working and what upgrades, if any, are necessary to return the home to peak performance. There is no obligation to do anything beyond this step.

California's Healthy House Solution is not the same as an energy audit.

Westside utilizes Energy Star, a voluntary government program that allows people to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases through energy efficiency without sacrificing comfort or quality.
