DJ meets kids with epilepsy

HAPA, one of Los Angeles' leading disc jokeys, will host a session for children with epilepsy on Sat., Sept. 15 at Camp Mount Crags, 26801 Dorothy Drive, Calabasas.

The event is sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles and is part of "Excelling with Epilepsy," an interactive program supported by Ortho-McNeil Neurologics Inc. The program is designed to help children with epilepsy cope with the challenges of living with their condition and that they are capable of living normal lives.

Diagnosed with epilepsy at age 17, HAPA was initially told he would not be able to attend college due to his condition. He attended UCLA on a Regents scholarship and today is the executive director of the Scratch DJ Academy.

At the event, HAPA will speak to children with epilepsy about the challenges they face and then host a special "Scratch DJ Academy" session with the campers, where they will learn the basics of DJ-ing.

In addition to the children's activities, pediatric neurologist Raman Sankar, MD, of the David Geffen School of Medicine and Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA will lead an interactive discussion with parents and caregivers.
