Classes include dance, art, sports, cooking, fitness, fencing and foreign language. For brochure or to register, call or stop by the recreation center. •An overnight excursion to Mesquite and Stateline for three nights and four days with baggage, all breakfasts and a lunch while on the Utah guided tour will be Sept. 25 through 28, departing from the Agoura Hills Recreation Center. Fees are $255 per person for single occupancy and $235 per person for double occupancy. Participants must be a registered member of the Agoura Hills Senior Center, which is $12 for the calendar year. •A women's self-defense workshop will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sat., Sept. 29. The instructor is Laura Cox, second-degree black belt. The cost is $40. Learn simple defensive strategies and techniques to feel safe and in control. •A Spanish Parent and Me class for children ages 2 to 4 years will introduce parents and children to elementary Spanish vocabulary and pronunciation using music, crafts and games. The class is on Tuesdays from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Oct. 2 through Nov. 6. The fee is $42 plus a $10 nonrefundable lab fee payable to instructor Maria Ballesteros. •Tennis classes are offered beginning the week of Oct. 3 and run for six weeks. Classes will be at Agoura High School, 28645 W. Driver Ave. Youth tennis for ages 7 to 11 has openings for Beginning and Advanced Beginning classes for $48. Teen tennis for ages 12 to 16 has openings for Beginning and Advanced Beginning classes for $48. Adult classes ages 17 and up have openings for all skill levels for $54. Semiprivate and private lessons are also available for all skill levels. •Charm School 101 will be from 10 to noon Sat., Oct. 6 for ages 12 and up. Students learn how to be confident in social situations. The workshop is $35 plus a $10 lab fee. The instructor is Beverly Graham, talent agent. •A continuing dog obedience class for participants ages 16 and up is on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m., Oct. 20 through Dec. 12. The fee is $60. All dogs must have completed any basic dog obedience class. Patrons learn how to continue working and training a dog beyond the basic obedience commands, such as advanced heel, distance stays, stays under high level distractions, commands from distance and in motion, and off-leash control. •A ballroom, Latin and swing dance sampler for adults ages 18 and up will be on Fridays from 7 to 8 p.m., Oct.5throughNov.16.The price is $45. No previous dance experience or partner required. •Swing and salsa instruction will be given from noon to 2 p.m. Sat., Oct. 20. Students will learn the classic East Coast swing and the spicy partner dance salsa. A swing, fox trot and cha-cha combo will be taught from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 20. This workshop will begin with basic swing instruction followed by the fox trot danced to music from Frank Sinatra and Steely Dan and also the cha-cha. Preregistration is necessary by calling the instructor, M.C. Callaghan, at (818) 880-2159. •The Mature Drivers Training class, taught by Sy Rifkin, is a defensive driving course for seniors age 55 and over. The oneday course is from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Tues., Oct. 30. The cost is $12 for Senior Center registrants or $14 for nonSenior Center registrants. •Beginning and intermediate tai chi classes are offered for seniors age 50 and up. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays. The intermediate class is from 9 to 10 a.m. and the beginning class is from 10 to 11 a.m. at Reyes Adobe Park, 30400 Rainbow Crest Drive, Agoura Hills. The class is ongoing with a monthly fee of $29 or drop-in fee of $4 per class. Participants must be a current member of the Senior Recreation Program. •Qualified recreation leaders are needed. Responsibilities include monitoring department sites, working community special events, assisting with adult sports leagues, office coverage and more. Candidates should have group recreational activity leadership experience and a basic knowledge of rules or regulations governing competitive group athletic games and sporting events. This part-time position is 10 to 20 hours per week with daytime, evening and weekend hours. Special requirements include possession of, or the ability to obtain, first aid and CPR certification. |
