Labor Day arrests made

Law enforcement officers arrested 93 people on suspicion of driving under the influence during the four-day "Avoid the 14" Labor Day weekend crackdown, 27 fewer arrests than were made over the Memorial Day holiday.

No one was killed by DUI drivers during either holiday.

"Avoid the 14," the police crackdown on impaired driving named after the number of law enforcement agencies in Ventura County, will conduct a 19-day winter holiday crackdown beginning Dec. 14.

The effort is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said Senior Officer Humberto Jimenez of the Oxnard Police Department.
