Mountains Restoration Trust offers fall hikes

The Mountains Restoration Trust has organized the following hikes for September. The hikes will take place at Cold Creek Preserve.

9 a.m. Sat., Sept. 8- Flowers still bloom along this 2-mile trail through a shady canyon that passes by artifacts of early settlers, passes through chaparralformed tunnels and crosses streams and rivulets. Bring water and a snack. Meet at the lower gate to the Preserve, 1.2 miles up Stunt Road from Mulholland Highway in Calabasas. The hike will take approximately three hours.

9:30 a.m. Sun., Sept. 16- Hike along a stream-fed canyon filled with oaks and sycamores while listening to nature's many voices. This hike is approximately two-and-a-half hours and will be led by the Cold Creek docents.

5:15 p.m. Sun., Sept. 23- Take Cold Creek Preserve moonlight stroll. Join the group and walk along Topanga Skyline Ridge Trail, high above Cold Creek and Topanga, with views of distant mountains. Rock formations speak of the land's history. Bring supper and a snack to share. Meet at the top of Stunt High Trailhead. The hike will take less than four hours.

The Mountains Restoration Trust preserves and protects and enhances public enjoyment of the Santa Monica Mountains. Headwater Corners Interpretive Center offers youth and adult recreational, educational and volunteer programs.
