Triunfo YMCA to host barbecue Saturday

The Triunfo YMCA, serving Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park, will hold an Indian Guides information day and barbeque from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 8 at Willow Elementary School, 29026 Laro Drive, Agoura Hills.

The child-parent program is created for families with children from pre-school through sixth grade.

Indian Papooses is for fathers and their son or daughter ages 3and-a-half to pre-kindergarten. The program is designed to get an early start on fostering understanding and companionship between parent and child.

Y Indian Guides and Princesses is for fathers and their son or daughter in kindergarten through second grade.

Y Trailblazers is for fathers and their son or daughter in third through sixth grades and is a continuation for older children of the YMCA Indian Guide programs. Y-Trailblazers offers children more challenging and varied experiences, while teaching leadership and responsibility.

"With everyone's hectic schedules, our parentchild programs give fathers and their child the opportunity to set aside time to spend with each other doing great indoor and outdoor activities," said Ronnie Stone, Triunfo YMCA executive director. "The bond between father and child strengthens through these programs."

YMCA staff and YGuide volunteers will be at the event to answer questions, demonstrate activities and sign-up program members.

"Parents and kids meet in neighborhood tribes," Stone said. "Meetings are held monthly, usually at one of the family's homes. The Y-Guide schedule is geared around school schedules."

The barbeque is free for all those who attend.
