The Arc of Ventura County gets new name

The Arc of Ventura County is now the official name of the nonprofit organization that provides educational, vocational and residential services for people with developmental disabilities in Ventura County. Its counterpart, the foundation that runs its two thrift stores, i s now officially The Arc Foundation of Ventura County.

Signage at the organization's two thrift stores will be changed at the earliest possible date. The Arc Foundation of Ventura County will host dedication ceremonies for the new signs at both locations. The ceremonies are planned for some time in midSeptember. The stores are at 265 E. Main St., Ventura and 625 North Oxnard Blvd., Oxnard. Both thrift stores are open seven days a week.

The Ventura thrift store's signage currently reads, "Retarded Children's Thrift Store." The Oxnard location's sign says, "Retarded Citizens Thrift Store." New signs at both locations will now read, "The Arc Foundation Thrift Store."

The Arc of Ventura County was established in 1954 as a not-for-profit corporation and serves more than 800 people in a variety of programs throughout Ventura County.
