City advises taking low-flow approach
By Joann Groff joann@theacorn.com

City of Calabasas officials are urging residents to consider making the change from highvolume flush toilets to lowflush toilets.

The city's environmental commission recently discussed the importance of conserving water in bathrooms and is encouraging local residents to use the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District incentive program.

The lowflush models are increasingly more popular since the Energy Policy and Conservation Act was approved in 1992. The legislation established water-use restrictions for new toilets, shower heads and faucets.

By 1994, a national manufacturing standard was set at 1.6 gallons per flush.

Residents can receive a refund of much of the money spent on purchasing and installing low-flush toilets at home. The water district offers a rebate program incentive.
